OPEN DOORS DAY AND PRESENTATION OF THE CHILDREN’S BOOK “Pau Casals, el colleccionista de pipes”

International Museum Day 2009. On Sunday 17th May, the Pau Casals Museum is holding an Open Doors Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with free guided tours at 10:30 a.m.
At 12 o’clock noon will be the presentation of the children’s book entitled “Pau Casals, el col·leccionista de pipes” (“Pau Casals, the Pipe Collector”).

The author Anna Obiols will tell the story while its illustrator, En Subi, will do a drawing, with the participation of the pupils of the Music Schools of El Vendrell and Bellaterra. Following this the cellist and pedagogue Laura Folch will give a sample of the family workshops which are held at the Pau Casals Museum.

Among the activities programmed for International Museum Day, on Friday 15th May from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, the radio programme “La Calaixera” of Radio El Vendrell will make a live broadcast from the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Vil·la Casals to reflect on and discuss the theme of International Museum Day 2009, “Museums and Tourism”.

Throughout the weekend the public is invited to discover the “jewel of the Museum”: the pipe and the case which were given to Pau Casals on his visit to Japan in 1961. The case is made of wood from the Japanese warship “Fukuimaru”, sunk in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904.
